Sunderland City Council approves £15m colliery regeneration

A Tesco store with 330 parking spaces will be built as part of a new retail on a former colliery in Sunderland.

The £15m town centre retail extension scheme at Houghton Colliery has been approved by Sunderland City Council.

Tesco customers will be able to make use of electric vehicle charging points and recycling facilities the car park. Tesco will also provide a petrol filling station on the site.
