Transport secretary Mark Harper has said he needs more time before deciding whether or not to grant National Highways a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the £1.5bn A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project.
The deadline has been extended by four months until 7 March 2024.
By law, the secretary of state should reach a decision on DCOs within three months of receiving the Examining Authority’s report, but extending deadlines for road schemes has become common practice.
