Monitoring of 20mph shows biggest falls in low-exception counties

The largest observed drops in mean traffic speeds on 20mph roads since the change to the default speed limit on restricted Welsh roads are in counties where 20mph has been most widely applied.

Data gathered by Transport for Wales before and after 17 September shows that weighted mean speeds on main roads dropped by an average of 4mph, from 28.9mph to 24.8mph. The largest drop, of 6.1mph, was at Penrhyn Bay in Conwy county borough. Only 0.8% of Conwy’s road mileage retains 30mph...
