11 April 2024

The new Women in Bus and Coach (WiBC) initiative has appointed its inaugural Board of Directors, comprising a mix of professionals with experience in operations, safety, policy, advocacy, finance, people, marketing and technology.

The board comprises accomplished women professionals, along with male allies, renowned for their “leadership, expertise, and commitment to advancing gender equality within the transport industry”.

WiBC said the board’s composition underscores its aim to amplify the voices of women within the bus, coach, and community transport sector.

Louise Cheeseman, former Director of Bus at Transport for London (TfL), is founder and Chair of the Women in Bus and Coach.

Other members of the board include:

  • Kerri Cheek, Senior Bus Safety Development Manager at Transport for London
  • Caroline Whitney, Technical Lead at the Community Transport Association
  • Candice Mason, owner of Masons Coaches of Tring, Hertfordshire
  • Lorna Murphy, Operations & HR Director at Transport UK London Bus
  • Tom Cunnington, Head of Bus Business Development, at Transport for London.

Kerri Cheek, founding Director of the Women in Bus and Coach initiative, said: “Women in Bus and Coach will work with bus and coach companies to challenge and eliminate barriers currently faced by women in the profession, creating a more inclusive service that is representative of our customers. We want women, whatever their background, to have equal access to a career in the industry and a workplace designed around their needs.”
