The Great Central Railway preservation organisation has submitted its planning application to Charnwood Borough Council for the scheme to reconnect two separate heritage railways and create an eighteen-mile line stretching from the north of Leicester to the south of Nottingham, centred on Loughborough. The proponents say it will create a living history experience bringing economic benefit and jobs in the area’s service sector.
