New government goes for experts turned ministers

The appointment of Lord Hendy is part of a move by Prime Minister leader Sir Kier Starmer to bring on board specialists from outside the world of politics as ministers in the House of Lords.

Additional experts include former chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance as Science Minister, rehabilitation campaigner and businessman James Timpson as Prisons Minister and Richard Hermer, an expert on international law, as his attorney general.
