West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is taking the next step in its plans to bring buses under public control, with an independent audit of the franchise assessment followed by public consultation later this year.

The decision to commission an audit follows an internal study by WMCA, which concluded that franchising the region’s bus services offered the best value for money.
