North East Mayor aims to take buses under public control within three years

North East Mayor Kim McGuinness has underlined her intention to bring bus services in the region under public control. Bus franchising was one of the Labour mayor’s core manifesto pledges during her campaign for the newly created position in May’s election.

She expects franchising to take nearly three years, based on the lessons learnt from other regions that have undertaken the process as well as the urban, rural and coastal geography of the North East Combined Authority.
