Renationalising train operators should reduce cancellations and late trains but may not result in cheaper rail fares, new Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has said in her first policy-statement since taking over from Louise Haigh.
She added: “We’ve had private train-operating companies running train services in this country over the last few decades, and it clearly hasn’t worked.”
