TPS adds board members as new chair sought

Three new members have joined the Transport Planning Society board (TPS), as the Society is seeking a new chair to succeed Ben Plowden who has moved to become CEO of the Campaign for Better Transport (CBT).

Coming onto the  board at this year's AGM are Joely Hill, Rob Goodall and Bruce McVean.

Hill is part of the Spatial Planning team at Transport for London (TfL), Goodall is Associate Director and Global Active Travel lead at Arup, and McVean leads the team that develops and delivers transport and public realm policy and projects for the City of London. 

Alexis Edwards, Daisy Narayanan, and Ruby Stringer  are standing down from their board positions.

In respect of the role of chair, the TPS  Board decided that Plowden's new role could create a conflict of interest for the Society, for example in terms of public comment on transport policy.  It was therefore agreed that it would be put to the AGM this month that Plowden's term as Chair be extended for a third year, but he should resign as Chair within six months of the AGM, subject to finding a successor.  

Nominations for TPS Chair are therefore being sought, with a view to appointing a new Chair to take over the role by September.

It is understood that informal approaches have already been made to potential candidates for Chair with nominations to be  submitted in May and if necessary an  election held in June, with the Chair-elect then co-opted to the Board.
