Network Rail’s directors have been forced to defer their bonuses after an outcry over their handling of payments to maintenance workers.

The row was provoked after Network Rail announced that 119 staff involved in the maintenance of the infrastructure at Grayrigg  would have their bonuses deferred until after the investigation into the February’s fatal crash has been completed.
