Public transport creates 25% more jobs than road investment says UITP

UITP, the international public transport association, has called on world governments to invest in public transport in order to safeguard employment at a meeting of its Policy Board in Belgium.

It says that in Europe, public transport operators alone create one million direct jobs, with every direct job linked to four jobs in other sectors of the economy. Public transport creates 25% more jobs than the same investment in building roads or highways.
