London mayor Boris Johnson last month unveiled his shopping trolley of schemes to improve transport infrastructure in the capital over the next 20 years and there were more than a few surprises.

The draft Mayor’s Transport Strategy reveals the shape of the capital’s transport system and how it will developed. Amongst the proposals are plans for Tube extensions, the long mooted Chelsea-Hackney Line, or Chelney, that is now branded firmly as Crossrail 2, improvements to the bus...
