Ka-Pow! This ain’t no Batman movie set

31 August 2011

Sitting in his unmarked police car on a Saturday evening, Detective Robert DiGiacomo of the Pittsburgh Police Department was primed to react to trouble. However, he was probably not quite expecting to find his car being the target of a thief.

Equally, 21-year-old Micah Calamosco had probably not planned on his next mark being a cop, so his reaction to DiGiacomo’s revelation is perhaps worthy of some admiration.

Calamosco said he was not actually a car thief but an extra working on the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, which was being shot in the city. The car jacking, he said, was all part of the script. DiGiacomo did not buy the idea of a Method actor actually carrying out car jacking on screen, so hauled the hapless felon in. Guess the Joker was on Calamosco.
