Islands and Strathclyde councils top the Scots road safety league

Scotland's Islands and parts of the Strathclyde conurbation have seen the biggest percentage drop in people killed or seriously injured (KSIs) in road accidents over the last 15 or so years, according to figures released by Transport Scotland. But in one authority – Aberdeenshire – recorded KSIs have actually increased.  

The analysis is based on comparing the average annual number of KSIs in the five-year periods 1994-98 and 2006-2010.
