Ticket gives private land offenders a verbal warning

A ‘talking’ parking ticket that issues a verbal warning to those who have parked on private land has been launched by parking operator FlashPark. The warning, which FlashPark describes as the world’s first talking parking ticket, is fitted with a ‘play’ button. When pressed, it informs drivers that they have been caught on camera, and the landowner reserves the right to contact the DVLA and request keeper details if the motorist parks on the site again.

A verbal warning could have a more lasting impact on a driver than a written notice, believes Costas Constantino, FlashPark’s heads of business development.

The verbal warning, which has a running time of up to 30 seconds, can be customised to suit the landowner’s requirements, said Constantino.

FlashPark solves 87% of parking problems without having to resort to issuing parking charge notices, said Constantino. He said the ‘talking ticket’ was the latest addition to the firm’s range of low cost and driver-friendly solutions.

Since the clamping ban on private land last year, there has been a growing need to manage sites using innovative methods that avoid the issuing of parking charge notices, said Constantino.

The cost of issuing a notice and pursuing the driver for payment is often more trouble than it was worth, said Constantino. “There’s the cost of preparing and mailing the notice, which is £3, then applying to the DVLA for registered keeper details, paying the adjudication service POPLA £27 for each appeal heard, and paying the small claims court £30 to enforce payment. It all adds up.

“Our aim is to provide cost effective solutions that do not rely on the DVLA database.”
