Scots road fatalities fall to record low

Road accident fatalities in Scotland fell to 170 in 2012, 15 fewer than in 2011 and the lowest number since records began, according to provisional statistics from Transport Scotland. Recorded serious injuries rose by 82 (4%) to 1,959 but slight injuries fell by 269 (3%) to 10,446. Cyclist casualties rose 9% to 898, with fatalities up from seven to nine and serious injuries up from 156 to 167. Motorcyclist casualties rose 7% to 864 but fatalities fell from 33 to 21.
