Visits to Walsall double after parking fee cut

The reduction in long-stay parking fees in Walsall town centre has resulted in an almost doubling of drivers parking in the council’s car parks. The cut was announced in November 2012 as part of a drive to make the town more attractive.

The drop in long-stay parking fees from £5 to £3 has seen 18,241 tickets for all-day parking sold in the first six months of this year, compared with 9,475 in 2012 – an increase of 92%. Two hours in short-stay car parks now costs...
