Rethink 60mph limit plan on M1, councils and motorists tell HA

Local authorities and motoring groups have criticised the Highways Agency’s plan to impose a 60mph speed limit on a 32-mile stretch of the M1 on air quality grounds.

The HA is consulting on lowering the 70mph limit between junctions 28 (the A38 intersection close to Mansfield) and 35a (the A616 intersection north of Sheffield). The 60mph limit would apply between 7am and 7pm seven days a week.
