Nexus consults on Metro plan

Nexus is to consult on a new strategy for the Tyne and Wear Metro, with the key objective being to procure a new fleet of trains.

The existing train fleet dates back to when the Metro system opened in the 1970s. It is currently going through a three-quarter life refurbishment, which will extend its life for about another ten years.

The strategy also presents options for network extensions. Three would use rail formations:
