The New Forest National Park Authority this week killed-off plans for the UK’s first mass public bike hire scheme in a rural area, citing anti-cycling views in the local community as a contributory factor.

The decision has angered pro-cycling groups and the company, B-cycle, which had been selected to run the scheme. It said ministers should prevent the National Park Authority from reallocating the £2m DfT grant for the project to other cycling schemes.
