However our transport system evolves, roads will be at its heart, serving private and collective transport, motorised and non-motorised. Developments in technology seem set to reinforce the dominance of the one network reaching every home and business – yet there is surprisingly little focus by policy-makers on what is needed beyond the Strategic Road Network.
