A blogger has used official data to prove that the New York Police Department (NYPD) wrongly ticketed thousands of vehicles that were actually parked legally.

Ben Wellington, who has an interest in data, made the discovery after NYPD kept issuing tickets against his car when it was legally parked on a pavement ramp on the street where he lives. 

Drivers have been allowed to park in some of these spaces since 2009.
