This new Rees Jeffreys report proposing a Major Road Network (MRN) is essentially a bid for money, as indicated by your headline ‘Give Councils same funding certainty as Highways England’ (LTT 14 Oct). It proposes expanding the existing 4,200 mile Strategic Road Network (SRN) of inter-urban roads to an 8,000 mile MRN.
