Age shapes travel patterns

A generational divide in travel patterns is revealed in a new report by the Independent Transport Commission (ITC).

The average number of miles driven by 17-34 year old men fell 47% between 1996-98 and 2012-14. There was a 15% drop among 17-34 year old women and a 24% fall amongst 35-59 year old men. All other gender age groups recorded growth, with the largest rise – 128% – for women aged 60+. Overall, average miles driven per adult fell 14%.
