Labour's 10-year plan to get people out of cars while "continuing to upgrade our highways"

Labour would in Government oversee a 10-year investment plan to improve Britain's "second-rate" transport infrastructure, to enable people to "get out of their cars," while upgrading the road network - with the A1 North, Severn Bridge and A30 needing "urgent attention".

The Labour manifesto vows to reverse transport privatisation, which it declares has led to the highest fares in Europe and unreliable, overcrowded services. It would build HS2 to Scotland, a Crossrail of the North, Crossrail 2 and the Milton Keynes to Oxford rail link. Every area and region would get its "fair share of transport investment" as the Government invests £250bn in the nation's transport and other infrastructure over 10 years, whilst the National Infrastructure Commission would advise on upgrading the national cycle network. The party backs the Airports Commission, despite opposition to expansion of Heathrow from the shadow Chancellor John McDonnell.

The pledges would mean "world-leading transport infrastructure," in a manifesto that would "transform the lives of many people in our society," according to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
