‘Enshrine 2040 petrol car ban in legislation’

The Government should enshrine its plan to ban the sale of new diesel - and petrol-only cars from 2040 in legislation, the Government’s energy adviser has said.

Dieter Helm has told ministers that the ban on sales of new pure petrol and diesel cars, and the plan to phase out coal-fired power stations by 2025, both need legislative backing.
