Poor summer dampens First’s bus data, but GWR boosts rail

Firstgroup has blamed this summer’s poor weather for a decline in the financial performance of its bus division. But rail performance grew, driven by the new fleet of trains on the Great Western franchise. 

Group revenues climbed 6.9 per cent in the first half of 2019 [to 30 September] to £3.531bn. 

The results record a statutory operating loss of £118m, compared with a profit of £46m in the first half of 2018/19. Performance was hit by a Greyhound impairment...
