The debate over the merits of low traffic neighbourhoods (Letters LTT 2 Oct) reminds me of a street improvement scheme I was involved with as a local resident in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, in the mid-1980s. Our road and an adjacent street were used as ‘rat runs’ and consequently residents parked their cars on the pavement to avoid being clipped by the through traffic. This caused obstruction to pedestrians as well as creating an unsightly vista of cars parked higgledy-piggledy...
