Non-exhaust emissions (NEE) now account for about three-quarters of all particulates from road transport. Yet Government health experts say there is no compelling evidence that NEE particulates have a damaging impact on human health. In which case, why are we destroying the diesel vehicle industry? asks Paul Withrington

Forgive me for following up my letter on battery electric cars (LTT 02 Oct). I do so because, in the same issue, we have COMEAP, the Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollution, declaring that there is no “compelling narrative of adverse health effect of exposure to non-exhaust particles from road traffic” (‘No compelling evidence that brake & tyre dust harm health’).
