The DfT has accepted the case for making passive provision for two new junctions on the HS2 line between Crewe and Manchester that could connect with a Northern Powerhouse Rail line to Liverpool.

A consultation held last summer proposed making provision for the junctions at High Legh in Cheshire. One junction would enable trains to/from Liverpool to access the HS2 line into Manchester and on to points further east. The other would enable HS2 services to/from Liverpool to reach...
