Highways England’s new preferred route for the controversial A27 bypass for the town of Arundel in West Sussex was favoured by just seven per cent of respondents to the consultation. 

Highways England has chosen the longest and most expensive of the six options – the grey route – following a consultation last year (LTT 13 Sep 19). The grey route is the only option that would not encroach on the South Downs National Park.
