Welsh Government sees new bus grant as foundation for recovery

The Welsh Government was criticised for its handling of bus services during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic, with emergency funding being slow to flow. Ministers believe a new grant scheme provides the basis for industry recovery as lockdown restrictions ease

A new funding model to help bus operators recover from Covid-19 should be put in place in Wales within the next few weeks. Local authorities and operators have been studying the fine print of a legal agreement prepared by the Welsh Government for the new grant scheme, known as Bus Emergency Scheme 2 (BES2). All being well, the relevant parties will sign the agreement this month.
