Rubbernecking blamed for Stonehenge jams

Congestion on the A303 at Stonehenge could be cut for a fraction of the cost of building a tunnel if the stones were screened so drivers can’t see them, an environmental campaigner has said.

Writing this week’s Viewpoint column, Andrew Nicolson says Highways England has failed to properly assess the extent to which delays at Stonehenge are caused by drivers ‘rubbernecking’. Google Maps live traffic shows the problem is widespread, he says.
