Edinburgh public split on Spaces for People

Edinburgh’s Spaces for People programme of temporary active travel measures implemented during Covid-19 has divided opinion. The city council is now considering whether measures should be made permanent in order to promote long-term travel behaviour change

The appearance of many of Edinburgh’s streets has been dramatically altered in recent months as the council implements an extensive programme of temporary measures to support active travel during Covid-19. Twenty-four miles of cycle lanes have been installed, along with widened footways, vehicle restrictions, and changes to parking and unloading.
