More than half see public transport as vital for work journeys, survey finds

Public transport is a “necessity” for getting to and from work for more than half (53%) of respondents to a survey commissioned by think tank IPPR. This compares with 20% who say their cars are essential for work journeys. 

More than one-third (35%) see public transport as essential for seeing family and friends, the survey found. Public transport to work is rated more crucial than having a phone (46%) and access to the internet (43%).
