Virgin to fly using ‘green’ fuel by 2015

The Virgin Atlantic airline has announced that it is planning to run scheduled flights using a new, ‘green’ fuel source from 2015. The new fuel, which is being developed by two firms, New Zealand-based LanzaTech and Swedish Biofuels, is ethanol-based and is produced by capturing the carbon that is emitted in the production of heavy industrial products such as steel.
