London: cycle commuting has doubled in a decade

 

The number of people who cycle to work in England and Wales rose 13.9% between 2001 and 2011, from 650,977 to 741,383, according to Office for National Statistics data. 

Much of the growth is attributable to the capital – the number of Londoners cycling to work has doubled from 77,000 to 155,000. In percentage terms this represents a rise from 2.3% to 3.9%.
