Sustrans believes the lower end of the range of penalties proposed in Wales for drivers who allow engines to idle is insufficient to act as a deterrent.

Currently local authorities can fine drivers a fixed £20. The Welsh Government regards £20 as too low, both to deter idling and to make it financially viable for local authorities to carry out enforcement. The Environment (Air Quality and Soundscapes) (Wales) Bill proposes setting a range (LTT867).
