Parliament has every right to change bus policy framework

In response to Peter Shipp (Letters LTT 19 Feb), I would first observe that the bus industry seems to want to be exempt from the general principle that Parliament is entitled to pass legislation it considers to be for the general public good. In my view, which I believe others share, the general public good requires bus franchising. I would, however, want redundancy payments and pension issues to be dealt with by special provisions in the upcoming Buses Bill.
