The new £1 coin will enter circulation in March 2017, Chancellor George Osborne has revealed. The new 12-sided coins started rolling off the production line at The Royal Mint at a rate of over 4,000 a minute.
The current £1 coin is being replaced for the first time in over 30 years because of its vulnerability to sophisticated counterfeiters.
The new 12-sided coin resembles the old ‘threepenny bit’ and will be the world’s most secure coin in circulation.
