The Women In Parking (WIP) organisation formally launched its European chapter during Intertraffic Amsterdam.
WIP was launched in the United States during 2011 to provide a network that inspires and mentors women working in the sector. WIP now has over 200 members drawn from across the public and private parking sectors.
WIP has been keen to expand its activities on the international scene. The European launch follows the creation of an Australian chapter in 2013.
The European chapter’s president is Anjna Patel, principal officer, parking & safer and sustainable travel team at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
Juliette Breyton, business development manager at Spanish online booking service Parclick, is the chapter’s vice president.
“The success of the chapter’s launch has taken us completely by surprise,” Patel told Parking Review. “WIP facilitates networking, encourages education and training and, most importantly, seeks mentorship from male as well as female leaders within the sector. It is important to stress that this is not a ‘women-only’ membership – it includes men too. WIP is about identifying and nurturing talent.”
