Sheffield street tree removal halted

Sheffield City Council and its highways contractor Amey say they intend to resume their controversial programme of felling mature roadside trees, which was halted last month after confrontations between opponents and staff. Sheffield has about 36,000 street trees, and more than 5,000 have now been felled and replaced with saplings.
