New look for Marylebone’s Moderne car park

The car park serving an inter-war apartment building in Westminster, London has been refurbished. Dorset House is a block of 185 upmarket flats built in Marylebone between 1934-5 to designs by architects TP Bennett and Son, who worked with consulting architect Joseph Emberton, who adopted the Moderne or Art Deco style.

The building occupies a complete city block. Its façade features reliefs by the sculptor Eric Gill, while the ground level is given over to shops and restaurants, as well as a petrol filling station and entrances to its underground car park.

The building has been listed and remains a much sought after address in central London. However, the underground car park had come to be regarded as a dark and uninviting space.

The client, Field Day Developments, commissioned Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs to upgrade the car park. The client specified the Sikafloor-EB24e to provided a trafficable, slip-resistant finish and protection from harmful de-icing salts. A decorative top-coat provided a final layer.

Sikafloor-EB24e is known for its durability and comes in a range of colours. It meant we were able to provide the client with a car park that looks as smart as it performs.”
