The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is asking motorists not to use cash to pay for parking after criminal gangs were discovered using vacuum cleaners to suck coins out of meters.

Over the past 12 months, £120,000 literally been sucked out of machines across the borough, as organised gangs use hoovers to steal cash from pay & display terminals. Criminals have also been driving into the machines and using sledgehammers to smash them open, the council said.
