A national newspaper put parking on its front page, claiming councils are on course to make a £1bn surplus over the coming year. On 8 March the Daily Mail said motorists face charges rising by up to 230% as local authorities finalist their 2019-20 budgets.
As well as charging more for car parks, the newspaper said councils are raising the cost of residential permits, and that shoppers and churchgoers will be hit by the end of cheaper Sunday parking in some areas.
