Welsh deputy climate change minister Lee Waters has admitted there are tensions between the Welsh Government’s climate change obligations and its ownership of Cardiff Airport.

The government rescued the airport in 2013 after a slump in passenger numbers. It paid £52m for the airport, located west of Barry, and subsequently provided further financial support. This month the airport’s main airline, Wizz Air, withdrew all of its flights and operations.
