It wasn’t exactly a dream start at Connex for John O’Brien. Just three days after joining the French group as its UK Chairman in June 2003, he was told by the Strategic Rail Authority that his new employers were to be stripped of their South Eastern rail franchise. Alleging financial mismanagement as the reason for its decision, the SRA was effectively booting Connex out of the UK.
