Ipswich Buses could be the latest council-owned bus operator to pass into private sector hands with the media speculation before Christmas linking the municipal to London-based group Go Ahead.
The move follows Go Ahead's purchase late last year of Plymouth Citybus and a flurry of similar deals throughout 2009. More recently the Office of Fair Trading has approved a deal between Caerphilly County Borough Council and Stagecoach for the purchase its Islwyn Borough Transport operation.
