The UK’s population is forecast to rise by 4.4 million over the next decade, from 64.6 million in 2014 to 69.0 million by mid-2024, according to the central projection published by the Office of National Statistics.
The ONS’s longer-term central projection is that the UK’s population will hit 70 million in mid-2027 and 74.3 million in mid-2039, a 15% rise on current levels.
The forecast for 2024 is 249,000 higher than the 2012 projection.
